The Infamous Coat!

This is my Captain Hook coat which has served me well since it was first made back in 2009. We've gone on many adventures together down the shore, sailing on boats, riding roller coasters and even venturing out to places such as Hollywood, California and Miami, Florida.

This coat was made by my friend Jess who run her own online clothing store called Poofhawk. Jess did an amazing job at putting this together and I can tell you now, if she didn't do it, it would NOT have turned out this good, everything I learned from sewing came from watching her make this coat.

Some interesting facts about this coat:

::The coat took a total of 5 weeks to complete

::All of the red&gold rope was sewn on by hand. Each sleeve cuff has 88in. of rope (176in for both of them), the pocket flaps had 15in of rope each, and the body of the coat has 179in of rope. Total, that's 355in. of rope on the coat, that's 29.5 ft.

::The coat is fitted with 16 brass clock gear buttons and 14 gems

::The coat is 6 yds of red cotton velvet and 5 yds of gold satin.


I do have plans on a new coat to replace this on. I'd hate to run it ragged, so while it's still in good condition I'm gonna work on my next one. The new one will be a deep red empire velveteen (similar to the fabric used in the 2003 movie) which will hold up better and since it's darker, won't show dirt as easily. It'll either be lined with a thin brocade or a gold satin, depending on if I can find a brocade pattern I like that isn't too heavy. I plan on using the red&gold rope to create a pattern on the coat, similar to this one, but with more designs on the back. I'll also use buttons that have spinning clock gears on them, and make sure they're functional.
